The Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistant qualification is designed for individuals beginning their professional journey in the grooming industry.

Delivered over ten intensive practical days within our working salon, alongside structured home study, this course builds the essential foundations required to work safely and competently in a professional environment.

This course is suitable for:

• Complete beginners entering the industry

• Career changers seeking structured training

• Individuals wanting to work as salon assistants

• Those planning on progressing on to Level 3

No prior grooming experience is required. A strong work ethic, physical capability and willingness to learn are essential.

What you will learn:

During your practical salon days, you will develop:

• Safe animal handling and restraint

• Health and safety within a grooming environment

• Bathing and drying methods for different coat types

• Coat preparation, brushing and deshedding

• Nail trimming

• Ear care

• Recognising basic health concerns

• Basic clipping and safe scissor use

• Supporting professional stylists in a salon setting

You will work on real dogs under supervision, getting confidence in a structured, professional environment.

Guided Home Study:

Alongside practical training, you will complete guided home study covering:

• Industry legislation

• Animal welfare responsibilities

• Workplace procedures

• Infection control

• Basic canine anatomy and coat types.

• This structure learning supports your practical development and prepares you for assessment.

• Students should expect to commit additional time outside of salon days to complete coursework and revision.

What this qualification allows you to do:

On succesful completion of assessments, you will be qualified to:

• Work as a dog grooming assistant

• Support stylists within a salon

• Progress on to Level 3 Professional Dog Grooming

Level 2 is a foundation qualififcation that is a pre-requisite for Level 3. It does not cover styling or breed standard trimming, this is covered at Level 3.
